One on One Tuition.

Following on from my Makeup Tips and Tricks Party ………

I have been in the makeup industry now for over 8 years and I love to pass on my knowledge to anyone that will listen! Alongside my freelance work I have been teaching makeup now for 4 years to groups of female and male aspiring makeup artists at The Australian Academy of Cinemagraphic Makeup. I love training large groups of students at the academy and in my makeup workshops and parties but I also love to offer my clients one on one makeup tuition.

Not everyone can afford to spend thousands on studying a full makeup certificate or even find the time to hold a makeup workshop or party with their friends so one on one makeup tuition is the perfect solution.

A lot of woman really struggle and have no idea how to apply their own makeup. It can be very intimidating to walk into department stores and get bamboozled by hundreds of different lotions and potions and not have a clue what to buy and then leave after spending $$$ sold to them by a target driven sales lady on a cosmetics counter they have never heard of!

One on One tuition is for women who may be stuck in a rut and wish to learn some new techniques to brighten up their own makeup from day to day / work and basic looks to techniques on how to achieve a quick and simple smoky eye for going out.

These sessions are for women of any age and any skill level in makeup. I do not just work on youngsters in their 20’s with perfect skin but love to meet women in their 50’s and 60’s to help them feel revived and glamorous again.

I generally request 2 – 3 sessions of around 3 hours to talk through what is right for them and take them through easy application techniques on how to apply makeup themselves.

Two of my recent lovely clients were nice enough to write me the following testimonials on our one on one tuition's:

I knew I was in for an intensive glamour session shortly after Jacqui arrived with her suitcase and makeup chair. The suitcase opened out and produced all the makeup you could ever dream of, and for a girl like me who loves her makeup it was my own version of heaven. So many products, colours and brands to look at! Jacqui did my make up for an event I was attending and by the time the hour was up she had totally transformed me. I received so many compliments about how amazing my eyes looked, the blue just popped!

The following week I had two one on one makeup sessions with Jacqui. For the first session Jacqui asked me to do my own day time makeup look (no pressure at all!), she came to my house, had a look at my products and talked about what was missing or needed upgrading. I took lots of notes throughout the lesson and Jacqui was incredibly patient, she talked about all the products and the purpose for them, I have got pages and pages of notes to look back over! She also let me hold some of the brushes to apply the product myself, so she could help correct if required.

The second session was to complete an evening look, we did this session at Jacqui's house. I arrived to her makeup kit being spread all over the table, still amazing to see! We went over some of the information from the first session and I had some questions which Jacqui answered very patiently. During this lesson there was more opportunity for trying yourself, mainly because there are more products and blending darker eyes is such an art!

After both lessons and all my notes, I had put together quite a shopping list. Prior to the lessons I was very loyal to one particular brand so didn't know anything about other wonderful products that are available. Jacqui took me on a personal shopping trip to a makeup store in the city, it was a lot of fun - and less daunting because I with someone who knew all the products and could recommend the best ones. I totally love all my new products and my makeup bag now looks a little more varied!

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed my lessons and the glamour makeover prior to the lessons. I learnt some wonderful tips and tricks during the lessons and as a result particularly my day time make up is completely different now and many of my friends are telling me how much younger I'm looking. I can only say a huge thank you to Jacqui for sharing her knowledge and skills with me and for being so super patient.

Thanks Jacq for an amazing 'all about me' experience. As you know I was desperately in need of a pick me up and our session did the trick. I have already had three good friends (the ones you can trust to tell it like it is) tell me I look great. They are genuinely amazed for as you know I have had more than my fair share of life's challenges thrown at me recently. I know it is the products you chose for me that have given me that glow.

You saved me time and money and I am so genuinely pleased with my products. So many times I have bought make-up because the assistant told me it was right for my skin type and colour only to get it home and find it wasn't right for me. I ended up giving it away or worse throwing it away. As I have aged I find I need fewer products but they must be right for my sensitive skin. In five minutes you had located exactly what I needed - immediately knew if it worked for me and when the lipstick colour wasn't quite right you found the one that was. It would have taken me all day and I still would have got it wrong!

Your expertise and skill meant that buying my make up was worry free. I got the best result at the right price as I didn't buy unnecessary products. I look and feel so much better. Thanks for the great tips and I will be spreading the word about how clever you are to all of my friends.

These sessions are great gift ideas so ……. spread the word to friends and family ;)

Makeup Tips and Tricks Party

Try something different on your next get together with your girlfriends!

I recently held a Makeup Tips and Tricks Party for one of my dear friends and around 12 of her close girlfriends. It was a fantastic night and I have had some great feedback from all of the girls, all of them wanting to know more ;)

Not many woman know how to properly apply their day to day makeup so the purpose of a Makeup Party is NOT to sell any product (I use my own freelance kit on all demos) but to educate and pass on some secret tips and tricks from the past 8 years of being in the cosmetics industry.

It is such a great opportunity to get your girlfriends together and do something different. I normally request a 3 hour time frame but of course the conversation, wine and nibbles do tend to flow on.

I select 2 models out of the group, one for a day makeup demonstration (this shows how to create a perfect day time / work look) and one for an evening demonstration (this will show how to create a more glamorous, party, smokey eyed look).

All the lovely ladies can ask as many questions as they like and I also get them to bring along their personal makeup bags so I can then look through them, tell them what to chuck and what essentials they need to get in!

These parties are not just for the young glamour queens either. I have done a few parties now for woman in their 50’s and 60’s who tend to be stuck in a rut with makeup and need to learn some new and fresh techniques.

Please pass on to all your friends and family and think about doing something different on your next girlie get together ;)

Airbrushing and Bridal workshop !

It's been a while since my last blog but I'm baaaack and will be blogging on all things makeup a lot more from now on ! Promise !
This week is one of my favourites ;) I Love teaching students new and exciting techniques. I have 4 lovely ladies with me all week learning how to make it in the industry as a successful bridal makeup artist . Most freelance artists that I know in the industry will still take on weddings most weekends around other film , television and fashion work.It is such a stable good source of income for an artist . Each year I will take on between 40-50 weddings and will be booked out most Fridays and Saturdays of the year depending on my availability. It is always a great morning to share with a bride and becomes very rewarding making a bride feel at her most beautiful ;)
Along with teaching a variety of techniques to my students including looks for every type of bride , their bridesmaids , flowergirls and mothers of the bride , I share my knowledge on how to market themselves in a very competitive industry.
Airbrushing is a must for any bride so I will also be teaching an advanced airbrushing workshop alongside all the bridal techniques to show how to achieve a flawless photographic finish to every makeup.
Stay tuned for images to come ......
I LOVE MAKEUP !

My 9 to 5 .......

A sneaky look at what I do during the week as a makeup artist.

Alongside all of my freelance makeup work , a few of you may know that I am also a Makeup Educator to around 50 students a year. I teach students of every age from 15 right through to 60. They come to me to learn tips and techniques in every area of makeup artistry from the basics ( day , evening , mature , bridal , formal , smoky eyes , false lashes ) to more photographic techniques ( colour photographic , black and white , catwalk , high fashion , avant guard ) . I absolutely love teaching especially when a student comes to me knowing NOTHING about makeup and then leaving 3 months later full of motivation and new skills to go out and try to make it in a very competitive industry.

Here are a few snaps of some of the demonstrations that I do on my lovely students to inspire them.

Must Have Product of the Month - October 2011

MAC FIX+  - Prep and Finish.

This is a MUST HAVE product not just for all Makeup Artists but for girls and guys doing their day to day makeup.

An aqua-spritz of vitamins and minerals, infused with a calm-the-skin blend of green tea, chamomile and cucumber, topped off with the fresh, natural, energizing scent of Sugi. Adds radiance, finishes makeup. Spray it on. Skin drinks it up!

This product smells amazing and makes your skin feel so revitalized and fresh - Perfect for those sticky humid Australian summer days. I like to use it on clients before and after makeup application.

A lot of my clients have very dry dehydrated skins , when makeup is applied it can tend to go patchy and start to separate looking cakey and unnatural , this will help to moisturise and refresh before application , making your base layer of foundation go on a lot smoother ( let it settle into skin before using it with your favourite primer for extra moisture ).

Add a squirt at the end of makeup application . FIX+ will set your makeup and take away any dry, patchy, dull looking areas . It will add a dewy luminous glow to the skin .

This is a product I use backstage on shows and on photo-shoots all the time - use it on models in between touch ups as it helps to keep their makeup looking freshly applied.

An all round Awesome Product that I just LOVE LOVE LOVE and it does not have an expensive price tag !

Each month I will be reviewing and writing about another MUST HAVE product for everybodys makeup bag so keep a look out :)

A little gem!

Everyone should go out and purchase this little gem of a product . Just discovered the other day on my weekly shop around the chemist . Although I do not normally buy 'chemist brands' this little beauty is worth the $15! Natio Pure Mineral Eye Brightener - For girls that are concerned about dark circles under their eyes ( which we all are!) this eye brightener can be worn on its own or I personally wear it everyday underneath my normal under eye concealer . It has a gorgeous luminosity and slight shimmer to it so it reflects light away from unwanted dark areas and creates a beautiful dewiness and glow.
